The Transportation Committee approved a package of Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) rule dockets that change how vehicle dealers display signs, how names appear on driver’s licenses, and how Idaho incorporates the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
The committee unanimously approved each docket after department staff described the edits as largely cleanup items driven by the Governor’s regulatory review process and by the need to align Idaho practice with national technical standards.
The most contested item was a proposed clarification that a dealer’s business sign must be “visible from a distance of 50 feet.” Bridal Floyd, policy specialist for ITD’s Office of Governmental Affairs, said the change is intended to make an existing statutory requirement more objective. “Every dealer I know of the 1,400 in the state have visible signs for 50 feet,” Floyd said. He told the committee the rule does not create a new obligation but clarifies what the statute already requires and removes duplicate language covering liability insurance, bond requirements and suspension conditions.
