The chair of the Idaho Senate Health and Welfare Committee asked committee members to review budget documents and coordinate with staff ahead of scheduled Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee (JFAC) discussions.
At the start of the meeting the chair told senators a packet labeled “Senate Health and Welfare budgets review” includes the budget items seeking increases and asked members who will participate in JFAC briefings to contact Misty to schedule appointments with the responsible department staff. The chair asked committee members to email which budgets they will review and to report back so the committee can provide a recommendation to JFAC.
The chair said committee members can pair the policy discussion with a review of the underlying budgets, noting it is “kind of nice” to see the numbers that correspond to policy issues. The chair also excused two JFAC members from the exercise because they are already involved with the health-and-welfare budget work.
No formal action or vote on specific appropriations took place during the meeting; the item was an administrative request to prepare for upcoming JFAC hearings.
