Senate committee backs printing committee recommendation to limit session-law hard copies

Jennifer Novak, secretary of the Senate and member of the joint printing committee, presented the committee’s recommendation to limit printing of session-law volumes to a maximum of 90 copies for the 68th Legislature, citing decreased demand and increased online access. Novak cited Idaho Code section 67-509 as the statutory basis for the committee’s work and said the secretary of the Senate and the chief clerk of the House will continue processing and uploading historical session law volumes and journals to the legislative website during the interim.
Sen. Windrow moved to support the joint printing committee recommendation and Sen. Lent seconded. The committee approved the motion by voice vote and the recommendation will be forwarded to the Senate floor for ultimate approval.
Novak told the committee the number of printed copies has declined over the past decade and that the recommendation aims to balance the remaining demand for hard copies with savings from electronic access. Committee members had no substantive questions beyond procedural clarification.
