The Strongsville City Council on Monday approved a slate of public-works contracts and bid advertisements, reappointed a planning-commission member and received routine departmental and community reports.
Major actions included a contract for the 2025 pavement reconstruction program not to exceed $1,756,979 with Fabrizi Trucking and Paving; authorization to advertise for bids on the Tawny Brook Lane and Trillium Trail waterline replacement project; and several service contracts and purchase-authorizations for pavement, striping, sweeping and ready-mix concrete. Council also approved a transfer of burial rights for the Strongsville Municipal Cemetery and reappointed Kim Varas to a four-year term on the city's planning commission.
The contracts and resolutions were moved under suspension and adopted without extended debate. Councilmember Spring described the pavement program item and identified Fabrizi Trucking and Paving as the low bidder; Councilmember Roth outlined the public-service items including a ready-mix concrete purchase from Medina Supply Company and striping services from American Roadway Logistics. Finance Director Dean certified funds were available for the ordinances requiring certification; Law Director Jamieson said the measures were in proper legal form.
Other business: Councilmember Carbone reported the school district's facilities committee recommended roof replacements at Whitney and Chapman elementary schools after setbacks to a renewal levy; the district is delaying broader bond planning until further community outreach. Mayor Perciak reported that Southwest General Health System received a $3 million gift from a longtime physician, and he informed council of the death of Irma Kalanich; city offices will close at noon on Good Friday, April 18.
