JFAC delays setting several agency budgets after failure to reach consensus on CEC and benefits issues

The Joint Finance Appropriations Committee announced at the start of its Jan. 21 meeting that budget setting for multiple agencies will be delayed because the committee has not reached consensus on a CEC recommendation and an outstanding health insurance benefit issue.
A committee chairperson told members the committee “was unable to come to consensus on a CEC recommendation last Thursday, which has now caused a delay in our ability to set budgets.” The chair said the Department of Agriculture, the Military Division, the Veterans Division and the Public Utilities Commission have agreed to accelerate their budget presentations to Friday to keep the schedule moving while the outstanding issues are resolved. “Again, we cannot set these budgets until we resolve the CEC issue and the health insurance benefit issue,” the chair said.
Later in the meeting, members noted that a Millennium Fund Committee report expected on the agenda had not been convened and that the absence of that report was the reason the item was missing from the day’s agenda. The committee adjourned to reconvene at 8 a.m. the following morning.
No formal votes or budget actions were taken at the Jan. 21 meeting regarding the delayed items; the committee asked staff and affected agencies to accelerate presentations and to return once the CEC and benefits issues are resolved.
