The update said much of the district courtroom lighting has been installed and that furniture orders are in progress. Staff named Jan, Sam and Sandra as coordinating furniture needs; the primary contractor identified as TCI is handling remaining work. County staff said they expect one more potential change order related to routing low-voltage cabling and recommended holding a small contingency to avoid delays if last-minute issues arise. The facilities update noted that approximately half of the project contingency was previously used to cover annex work related to the cooling tower.
County staff said the July 3 date was proposed because it coincides with the county’s founding anniversary but emphasized the date must be cleared by the county historical commission before anything is finalized. The historical commission representative, identified as Eva, was reported to be reviewing whether a July 3 rededication would be practical. The county office recommended scheduling elected and state officials in advance if the July date is confirmed so they can plan attendance.
Project managers said move-in to the restored courthouse would likely occur after a rededication so that staff personal effects and paperwork are not at risk during final construction activity. Staff noted Callahan County received its restoration grant in the same round as Mason and Taylor counties and that Taylor County is planning its rededication in June.
County staff described the current approach as seeking a small reserve for any final change orders; if the reserve is not used, it would not be spent. No formal action was taken at the meeting on additional contingency; staff said they anticipate bringing any required change-order requests back to the court for approval if needed.
The facilities update closed with commissioners expressing satisfaction with visible progress and no additional questions from the court.
