City recognizes National Safe Boating Week; Coast Guard Auxiliary gives safety presentation

Jacobs cited a figure — "Last year, 564 deaths occurred, and 75 percent of those deaths" involved people not wearing life jackets — and encouraged boaters to take free local safety courses and vessel-safety checks offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The mayor presented a certificate of appreciation to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in recognition of its public-education work.
Council members and staff thanked Jacobs and noted the timing ahead of the summer boating season. The mayor and communications staff said information on local boating-safety courses and resources is available through city and partner channels.
