Hawkins said he revised earlier language after feedback to make the requirement less onerous: districts must list textbooks and may add supplemental material throughout the year, but they are not required to upload copies of workbook pages or entire curriculum packets. "They only need to inform what is being taught," Hawkins told the committee.
Representative Mathias asked whether the requirement effectively duplicates existing law and whether adding the word "website" to current code would suffice. Hawkins said the sponsors believed the current approach in the RS provided a clearer path. Representative Ehart moved to introduce RS32553 and cited other states with similar transparency rules and parental interest.
The committee approved the motion to introduce RS32553 on a voice vote; one member recorded a nay. The RS will be scheduled for a full hearing where district officials and parents may testify.
