Sheriff reports 19 inmates housed out of county; dispatch and patrol remain short-staffed

Calhoun County Sheriff Chad reported Feb. 24 that the county currently houses 19 inmates in a mix of nearby facilities and that the sheriff's office continues to be short-staffed.
The sheriff said the 19 inmates are split among neighboring facilities: 2 males and 4 females at Callahan, 5 males at Coleman, 2 females at Shackleford and 5 males and 1 female at Taylor County, for a total of 19 inmates. He added that Shackleford County recently began taking inmates for Calhoun after a period of not doing so.
Overtime figures reported by the sheriff showed 29 hours for dispatch and 21.75 hours for deputies. The sheriff said the office is short one dispatcher and one patrol deputy. Commissioner Farmer moved to accept the sheriff's report; Commissioner McGowan seconded, and the court approved the motion by voice vote with no opposition.
No further action was taken; commissioners thanked the sheriff for the report.
