Senate Education committee hears David Turnbull on State Board nomination; committee will vote later

The Senate Education Committee heard from David Turnbull of Eagle, Idaho, who has been nominated by the governor to serve on the Idaho State Board of Education for a term commencing Oct. 23, 2024, and expiring July 1, 2029.
Turnbull, who identified himself as a lifelong Idaho resident and a real estate developer, told the committee he and his wife have lived in the Boise area for 34 years and raised four children in the West Ada School District. He said his firm, Bridal Corporation, does real estate development in the Treasure Valley and that his work has included interactions with local districts on facilities and site locations.
"I had to reflect on it for a couple of months and think about what I might add to the state board," Turnbull said, adding that he wanted to be sure he could "make a difference" before accepting the governor's appointment. Turnbull told senators he supports teacher leadership and praised examples cited earlier in the hearing, calling them the kind of outcomes he hopes to promote on the board.
The committee did not vote on Turnbull's nomination at the session; committee members said they would hold a future vote. Turnbull thanked committee members for the chance to meet individually with them and said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve if confirmed.
