The Calhoun County facilities committee reported Feb. 24 that restoration and annex work on the county courthouse is progressing, with a target for significant completion on April 30 and a tentative rededication planned for July 3.
Committee members said toilet partitions, toilet accessories, fourth-floor sprinklers, vanities and counters are complete, and painting in the district courtroom was scheduled to begin the week of the meeting. The sprinkler-system drawings had been delivered to contractor Stoddard.
Work on the elevator remained pending an inspection and power connection; committee members said the elevator is ready but must clear power and inspection steps before being placed into service. The committee described April 30 as a milestone date for significant completion of the project but cautioned that that date did not imply every minor item would be finished.
Committee members said they are proceeding toward a July 3 rededication, pending coordination with the historical commission and completion of remaining punch-list items. No formal action was requested or taken by the court on the report.
The committee acknowledged potential issues around using the elevator during construction and said precautions would be taken until final inspections are complete.
