The Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee considered and voted on a $50,000 general-fund increase for the Office of Health and Human Services Ombudsman on Feb. 14. The Senate roll-call portion recorded 8 ayes and 2 nays; the House vote recorded fewer affirmative votes, and the committee announced the motion failed because the House majority did not vote in the affirmative.
Transcript notes show Representative Wintrow moved the appropriation and Representative Handy seconded. Representative Price announced he would vote no, citing concerns about a new program and inconsistencies between pay grades in the budget book and the annual report. The final combined roll-call totals reported were 13 ayes, 4 nays and 3 absent/excused; the committee announced the motion failed and said the item will be taken up at a later date.
Because the motion failed in the House portion of the committee, no due-pass recommendation was carried forward for that appropriation at this time.
