JFAC adds two positions and funds for State Fire Marshal and insurance regulation
Summary
The committee approved two full-time positions and $533,400 from dedicated funds for the Department of Insurance to add a staff actuary, a regulatory compliance specialist and state fire marshal compensation and replacement items.
The Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee on Feb. 14 approved enhancements for the Idaho Department of Insurance that include two new staff positions and funding for the State Fire Marshal program.
Committee materials show the approved items: one staff actuary (1 FTP, $201,900) and one regulatory compliance specialist (1 FTP, $121,200), both funded from the Industrial Administration Fund; a compensation increase for the State Fire Marshal program ($48,100 from the arson, fire and fraud prevention fund) to raise salary for 12 positions and cover variable benefits; and $162,200 for replacement items (protective equipment, cameras and two medium-duty pickups equipped for fire-marshal use). The total dedicated-fund increase approved was $533,400 and two FTE were added.
The motion passed with committee roll-call results reported as 18 ayes, 1 nay, 1 absent/excused and carries a due-pass recommendation.
