Resident urges Marion County to consider safety markings on Lakeshore Drive after parking concerns

A Marion County resident asked the commission during public comment on Feb. 24 to consider measures to improve safety on Lakeshore Drive near the county lake, where residents and visitors sometimes park on the roadside.
Arlene Sticca told commissioners she has observed vehicles using the county road as driveway space and said the traffic volume and narrow roadway make that practice hazardous. "It probably wouldn't hurt to at least give people the idea that, you know, this is a main drive through here," Sticca said. She noted the county could not widen the road because of the lake but suggested markings or other measures to discourage parking on the traveled way.
Commissioners did not take immediate formal action on the request during the meeting. Staff was not asked to return a specific plan at the meeting; the comment was recorded during the public‑comment portion of the regular agenda.
