Soil and Water Conservation Commission requests light-duty pickup replacement

The Soil and Water Conservation Commission told the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee on Jan. 15 it is requesting $40,500 to replace a light-duty pickup that was purchased in February 2006 and, at the time of submission, had approximately 84,000 miles.
Janet Jessup, a budget and policy analyst with the Legislative Services Office, said the commission was moved to the Department of Agriculture in 1997 and works with 50 soil and water conservation districts under Idaho Code section 22-2718. "The replacement item that is requested by the Soil and Water Conservation Commission is $40,500 to replace a light duty pick up truck," Jessup said. She noted that the budget development manual distinguishes classes of vehicles and that light-duty trucks typically carry a lower replacement rate than heavy-duty vehicles.
Administrator Delwyn Treves of the Soil and Water Conservation Commission was in the hearing room; committee members asked questions about vehicle classes and price caps. Senator Wintrow asked whether the Department of Administration revisits replacement rates to account for inflation; Jessup said she would follow up with additional information on that process.
No formal committee action occurred during the presentation; the item will be considered during the committee’s budget deliberations.
