State Board staff presented a rule revision affecting the Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA) that would add language encouraging collaboration with local education agencies and allow comprehensive final projects in place of some high‑stakes exams.
Matthew Scribe said IDLA requested the language to better cooperate with local districts, especially around final assessments. "One thing we really wanted to add to that was or a comprehensive final project... it's a lot of the times we see these teachers moving away from high stakes exams to final projects," Scribe said.
Staff framed the change as an effort to encourage local collaboration and to support assessment models that some IDLA instructors and districts prefer. The committee did not take action at the meeting and staff indicated more rule discussion would continue in subsequent sessions.
