Steve Landon introduces himself at Commerce Committee reappointment hearing for Idaho State Insurance Fund board

Steve Landon, a longtime member of the Idaho State Insurance Fund board, introduced himself to the Senate Commerce Committee as the Legislature considers his gubernatorial reappointment.

"My name is Steve Landon. I am the present member or, labour member of the state insurance or Idaho State Insurance Fund board. I am, obviously looking for, your confirmation of my reappointment," Landon said, recounting that he was originally appointed around 2009–2010 and describing his years of service.

Landon told the committee the fund has modernized in recent years and credited the board and management for moving the organization into a more digital, responsive model. "We are into the digital age now... We are a serviced, organization where people can make, make a phone call or do an online claim or get things handled within a matter of days," he said, adding that the fund has become more competitive and stable.

Committee members asked about Landon's experience and priorities. Senator Ruckdy asked Landon to describe skills he gained during 43 years at J.R. Simplot Company; Landon said leadership and listening were central and that his union experience included representing members through many claims and hearings. Senator Lakey disclosed he serves as the Senate representative on the State Insurance Fund board and praised Landon; Senator Nichols asked about priorities if Landon were reappointed, and Landon said he wanted to remain involved in discussions about remote work, time-off policies and continuing improvements in service.

The committee did not take a confirmation vote at the appearance. The chair told Landon the Legislature will take up the vote on his reappointment at the committee's next scheduled meeting on Thursday.

Landon closed by thanking the committee for the opportunity to serve and said he would appreciate the committee's support when the vote is taken.
