Representative Joe Alfieri of Coeur D'Alene introduced RS 32,004 to stop switching clocks twice a year and to keep the state on standard time.
Alfieri told the committee he and medical groups have raised concerns about the health impacts of the biannual time change. He said “the American Medical Association has long lobbied against the change in time” and that switching back and forth is “not healthy” and creates safety concerns such as sending children to school in the dark. Alfieri said the legislature cannot unilaterally adopt year-round daylight saving time because that requires congressional action, but a state can choose to remain on standard time.
Representative Scott moved to introduce RS 32,004 for print. The committee approved the motion by voice vote and the measure will be scheduled for a hearing.
