Committee advances SB1037 to correct code references for Idaho veterans homes succession rules

The Senate State Affairs Committee voted to send SB1037 to the Senate floor with a do-pass recommendation after testimony from the Idaho Division of Veterans Services that the bill makes technical corrections to align with the 2024 Unclaimed Property Act changes.
Tracy Shaner, deputy chief for the Idaho Division of Veterans Services, told the Senate State Affairs Committee that Senate Bill 1037 makes “simple amendments and technical corrections” to Idaho Code 66-906 governing succession of property for deceased residents of Idaho State Veterans Homes who have no heirs or next of kin.
Shaner said the changes correct an incorrect code reference and remove obsolete language so the statute aligns with the revised Title 14, Chapter 5 — the Unclaimed Property Act passed in the 2024 legislative session.
"As proposed, these corrections change an incorrect code reference and removes obsolete language, which brings it into alignment with the current revised Title 14, Chapter 5, Idaho Code, concerning the Unclaimed Property Act that was passed during the 2024 legislative session," Shaner said.
No members of the public signed up to testify. Sen. Harris moved, and Sen. Adams seconded, that SB1037 be sent to the Senate floor with a recommendation that it do pass. The committee approved the motion on a voice vote.
The committee recorded no substantive opposition or amendment during the hearing; the bill will proceed to the full Senate.
