Haverhill council accepts $1,950 in donations for Council on Aging programs

Mayor James D. Barrett presented the donations and thanked donors on behalf of the city. "The Breakfast Exchange Club has come through again for these — this $1,500 for happy rides," Mayor Barrett said, describing the vouchers as "critically important to some of our older adults" who no longer drive and need rides to medical appointments.
The council accepted a $200 gift from Wingate Residences at Haverhill for a St. Patrick's Day party at the Citizen Center; a $250 gift from the Breakfast Exchange Club of Greater Haverhill for the same celebration; and a $1,500 donation from the Breakfast Exchange Club designated for the "Happy Rides" taxi-voucher initiative administered by the Council on Aging. Mayor Barrett and councilors noted that the city is formalizing acceptance of recurring community donations to align with gift-acceptance standards.
Councilor McGonigal moved to accept the gifts; the motions were seconded and approved without recorded opposition. Councilors thanked the donors and noted the funds would be used by the Council on Aging for the stated programs.
