Senate committee advances resolution honoring community leader Hector Hinojosa

The committee advanced Senate Concurrent Resolution 15 on Feb. 12, a resolution recognizing Hector Hinojosa for longstanding community and civic work in Washington County and beyond.
Senator Janine Salmon introduced the resolution and described Hinojosa as a founding member of Centro Cultural and the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center and an active participant in the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). She told the committee Hinojosa had been honored by the Mexican government with the Ohtli Award for his work supporting the Mexican and Latino community in the United States.
Carlos Gonzalez Melendez, the Mexican Consul General in Portland, praised Hinojosa’s leadership and called him a bridge-builder between communities. Hillsboro Mayor Steve Calloway, Washington County District Attorney Kevin Barton and other local officials also testified in support, describing Hinojosa as a tireless advocate who organized roundtables, supported immigrant‑rights efforts and helped establish community institutions.
The committee voted to advance SCR 15 to the floor with a do-pass recommendation.
