High school principal outlines senior week, graduation and VIP parking

Principal Dave Furman updated the board on senior‑year and graduation activities during the May 19 work session.

Furman described the schedule for senior week and end‑of‑year events. He said senior week begins the Monday after the meeting and includes a senior sendoff activity in the success center at lunch, a Senior Decision Day in the gym (about 10 a.m.–2 p.m.) when seniors sign a flag, receive cords and tickets for graduation and confirm post‑graduation plans, and an evening cap‑decorating event in the library. Furman said the senior sunset is Thursday, May 29, and a senior barbecue dubbed “Bun Voyage” is scheduled for Friday, May 30.

Furman also described post‑week events: scholarship recognition nights, grad practice, a “parade of graduates” through elementary and middle schools, baccalaureate the night before graduation and the graduation ceremony on June 6 at Wharton at 7 p.m. He said some recognition events were split into multiple nights to keep ceremonies shorter and that the parade through middle schools was “pretty special” last year.

Board members asked about VIP parking for board members at graduation. Furman described the small VIP lot as “east of the gym, kind of between the cafeteria and the gym area and that little crook in there,” and noted it is “a very small parking lot” and recommended guests be dropped off if possible.
