Elizabeth (Beth) Elroy appeared before a Senate committee as the governor’s nominee to the Idaho Board of Environmental Quality and described her technical and industry experience.
Elroy said she grew up in Jerome, earned a mathematics degree from the College of Idaho and a master’s in environmental engineering from Idaho State University, and has worked at Micron for more than 20 years in environmental, construction, operations, and sustainability roles. She currently serves as vice president of global environmental safety and health and sustainability.
Asked by Sen. Harris about board successes, Elroy cited DEQ’s ability to attract and retain leadership-level talent and the board’s role resolving contested cases that require technical oversight. When Sen. Shippey asked about agriculture and cloud seeding, Elroy said she is not an expert in those topics and deferred to agricultural experts while emphasizing the need to balance agricultural activity with land protection; she also said she has limited knowledge about cloud seeding.
Elroy told senators she supports protecting the environment while allowing business prosperity through innovative, cost-saving solutions that reduce environmental impact.
The committee did not vote on Elroy’s appointment at the meeting; senators said the confirmation will be taken up at the next meeting.
