Committee approves technical updates to Grade A milk standards; state has one remaining manufacturing-grade dairy

The committee approved an administrative update to Idaho's Grade A milk rules (docket 0204052401) that incorporates recent versions of four federal and multistate milk sanitation and laboratory standards.
Andrea Thompson, administrator for the Plant Industries Division at the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, was not the presenter for this docket; Dr. Scott Lively presented the Grade A update to the committee and described the four commonly updated documents: the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, methods for rating milk sanitation and shippers, evaluation standards for milk laboratories, and procedures from the cooperative interstate milk-shipment conference.
Dr. Lively said the 2023 updates are technical and have minor regulatory impact. He told the committee Idaho currently has roughly 350 Grade A dairies and one remaining manufacturer-grade dairy in eastern Idaho.
Representative Garner moved to approve docket 0204052401; the committee adopted the motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Agency staff said the changes are known and expected within the industry and that the documents are usually updated on a biennial cycle.
