Committee approves technical amendments and passes Physician Assistant Licensure Compact bill

The Senate Public Health Committee took final action Sept. 20 on Senate Bill 126, the Physician Assistant Licensure Compact. Committee members adopted technical amendments suggested by stakeholders and then passed the bill out of committee.
Committee staff described the bill as the Physician Assistant Licensure Compact. Senator Clifford offered balloon amendments that made two technical fixes: one revision changes a clause about the compact commission’s receipt of criminal background results so that a member state’s licensing board receives the results; the other corrects a typographical reference from “contract” to “compact.” Senator Clifford moved the amendment and Senator Blasey seconded. The amendment was adopted by voice vote.
Senator Blasey then moved the bill, as amended, for passage out of committee; the motion was seconded and the bill passed by voice vote. Sponsors said the technical changes aligned the bill’s language with compact model language and a suggestion from the Kansas Chamber of Commerce. Committee staff said the bill had been heard previously and the amendments were technical in nature.
The committee adopted the amendment package and passed SB126 out of committee on Sept. 20.
