BOISE — The Idaho House of Representatives voted Jan. 20, 2025, to suspend Rule 40, Part 1, permitting food and nonalcoholic beverages in the House chamber for the remainder of the 2025 legislative session.
A member moved to suspend the rule; a second was recorded. The presiding officer said suspension of the rule is a nondebatable motion that requires a two-thirds vote. The clerk operated the voting machine and members cast votes; the presiding officer announced the motion carried and said, “The rule is suspended for the remainder of the session.”
The suspension applies only to the consumption of food and nonalcoholic beverages in the House chamber. No tally by individual member was provided in the transcript; the clerk’s announcement recorded that the required two-thirds threshold was met and the motion passed.
The House returned to the calendar after the vote.
