Idaho Senate elects session attaches, administers oath

BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho State Senate on Jan. 9, 2025, voted to elect its session attaches and administered the oath of office to the appointees.
Senator Den Hartog moved that “the attaches, the names of whom will be read by the secretary, be elected to fill the offices provided for by the Constitution of the State of Idaho and by statute.” A second was offered and the secretary read a list of attaches. The senate then held a roll-call vote; the secretary reported 33 senators voted in favor, with two absent, and the motion carried.
The secretary read a roster that included, among others, Assistant Majority Leader Gay Bennett; secretary to the secretary of the senate Claudia Simplot; journal clerk Sawyer Crenshaw; minutes editor Nikki Root; Sergeant at Arms Sarah Jane McDonald; chaplain Doug Armstrong; and committee secretaries for Agriculture, Commerce and Human Resources, Education, Finance, Health and Welfare, and Judiciary and Rules. After the vote, the attaches were brought into the well of the senate and sworn in. Those sworn repeated the oath to “uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Idaho” and to “faithfully discharge [their] duties” in the Idaho State Senate.
Senate leaders thanked the attaches for their service and recessed for additional introductions and announcements before adjourning. The session adjourned to reconvene at 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 10, 2025.
