The House Revenue and Taxation Committee introduced RS 32472 on Feb. 24, a proposal intended to clarify how Idaho verifies homeowner‑exemption claims for property tax purposes.
Representative Jeff Ehlers, R‑Meridian, said the measure follows last year’s change that added an Idaho driver’s license as part of verification and that some counties reported confusion during implementation. The RS would specify that the verification requires an Idaho‑issued driver’s license, accommodate military applicants under an existing subsection for their process, and give taxpayers who move from out of state 90 days to obtain Idaho identification to validate an exemption.
Ehlers asked the committee’s permission to refer to pending legislation while explaining the revision; the committee granted permission without objection. Representative Raymond moved to introduce RS 32472 and the committee approved the motion by voice vote; the transcript records the motion carried but no roll‑call tally was recorded.
The RS is limited in scope to clarifying documentation and timing for homeowner‑exemption verification; no fiscal impacts or specific enforcement actions were discussed in the committee hearing.
