Peterson said the total supplemental appropriation is $1,058,900, of which $1,023,900 is federal funds and $27,000 is from the general fund; the presenter noted the federal grant covers the majority of the pilot and that a state match will be requested in future budget years. He described the request as year one of a pilot; additional appropriations for 2026 and 2027 will be requested later.
Senator Wintrow moved the supplemental, and Representative Manmore seconded. During roll call the chair summarized the chamber tallies: the Senate majority voted in favor (8 ayes, 1 nay, 1 absent/excused) and the House recorded 7 ayes and 3 nays; combined, the chair recorded ‘‘15 ayes, 4 nays, 1 absent and excused,’’ and stated the motion passed and will go forward with a do‑pass recommendation.
Peterson told the committee the appropriation aligns the Department of Correction with the federal grant timing so the program can start on schedule and remain compliant with the grant terms. The committee approved the supplemental on the recommendation of staff.
