Committee approves streamlined school building safety rules

Justin Touchstone presented the School Building Safety Program rule docket (20Four-three‑9062‑401) on behalf of the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses. He said the docket updated code‑by‑reference citations to the Idaho building code, restructured the chapter to align with other division boards, and removed a written‑interpretation provision from the Idaho Uniform School Building Safety Code.
Touchstone said the docket resulted from the 0‑based regulation review and included input from the State Department of Education and the Office of the State Board of Education. No substitute changes were identified, and the committee heard no public opposition at the hearing.
Senator Foreman moved to accept the docket; the motion was seconded and the committee approved the rule changes. DOPL will finalize the changes under the administrative rules process.
