Noah Peterson and Jared Tatro of the Legislative Services Office explained the change during the committee’s budget review. Jared Tatro told the panel: "That language, that dollar amount is required to be in the bill so that the Department of Education knows how much to distribute per support unit. The motion and the correction before you will say to provide $21,902 in that maintenance bill for distributions." The committee then accepted the correction by unanimous consent after a cochair requested it be included in the bill.
Why it matters: the program maintenance bill previously referenced an amount that resulted from a rounding discrepancy. The correction replaces a formulaic reference so the Department of Education has a fixed dollar amount to use when it distributes insurance dollars tied to support units.
Committee members had no objections and the chair noted the technical fix had been caught in time for inclusion.
The committee moved on to subsequent agency budget reviews after formally adopting the correction.
