Cincinnati council asks administration to review four cultural and recreation projects for possible Capital Project Fund support

The Cincinnati City Council voted on motions directing the administration to produce reports within two weeks reviewing four separate projects for possible funding from the Capital Project Fund. The motions passed by roll call during the Jan. 22 meeting.

Council members asked for separate reviews of the Camp Washington Skate Park; Artworks Creative Campus Art Park; the Clifton Cultural Arts Center headquarters; and expanded ADA-accessible connections at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Council member Walsh sponsored the motions; council member Krammerding (Budget and Finance chair) provided details on process and timing.

Krammerding said the finance and budget committee will set a timeline and a deadline for council members to submit requests. He said the administration will produce one consolidated report that outlines each applicant’s viability, whether the applicant is a 501(c)(3), prior city funding, tax-liability issues and other obstacles. He also said council will later deliberate how to allocate roughly $1,300,000 identified as carryover funds.

Supporters of the Camp Washington Skate Park included Sydney Prigg, executive director of Camp Washington Urban Revitalization Corporation, who told council her organizations back the request and said the park “could be instrumental in growing Camp Washington and providing opportunity for the youth in the neighborhood.”

The motions direct the administration to return a report within two weeks; the finance committee will lay out next steps for deliberation and final funding decisions.
