The State Brand Inspection Division presented a replacement‑item request to the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee on Jan. 15 seeking $289,200 from its State Brand Board Fund to replace six high‑mileage vehicles and to refresh a small amount of IT equipment.
Noah Peterson, budget and policy analyst with the Legislative Services Office, told the committee the proposal requests $282,000 for four Ford F‑150s and two Dodge Rams; those vehicles were acquired between 2013 and 2019 and showed mileage from about 170,000 up to about 222,000 miles, averaging approximately 188,000 miles per vehicle. Peterson said the remaining $7,200 would purchase two laptops and two tablets to replace outdated devices; the Governor recommended these replacements.
The State Brand Inspector and director, identified in the hearing as Cody Berlisle, was present to answer technical questions. Committee members asked whether replacement purchases will be based on best price and functionality rather than preselecting makes; Peterson clarified the vehicles listed are the ones being retired, not the specific make required for replacement.
No action was taken at the hearing; the replacement items will be considered as part of JFAC’s budget decisions.
