Panel strikes athlete-agent bill after review finds existing consumer protections

DPOR Deputy Director Steve Kirschner explained DPOR’s recent regulatory review and said the agency and the committee had examined whether the Consumer Protection Act was the correct enforcement vehicle. After discussion, the patron told the subcommittee she had concluded the protections sought already exist and asked to strike the bill. "...we believe that keeping it under DPOR and now understanding that is also in the Consumer Protection Act relationship, I would move ... the committee move to strike the bill," Delegate Cherry said.
Outcome: The committee reconsidered the earlier action and then voted to strike HB 2374. The clerk recorded the final action as the bill being stricken by the committee.
Ending: The patron said she raised the bill to better protect student athletes and thanked members and DPOR for the review that showed existing protection mechanisms.
