Board recognizes Sierra High students and swears in new student board representative Marissa Don Juan

The board recognized Liliana Limon (called “Liliana Lamone” in remarks), who won the Class 4A state wrestling championship at 125 pounds. Ryan Vecchio, Sierra’s athletic director, described Limon’s athletic record, work ethic and character and noted her involvement in multiple sports and student council. Vecchio said Limon is “humble in the hallway every day.”
The board also recognized Gustavo Marina Valdovinez (Gustavo) for making the All‑State band; the band director noted Gustavo is a junior and said he appears to be the first Sierra student in more than a decade to make All‑State. The board honored Cynthia Jacque for her work and leadership as board president of Educating Children of Color.
Before those recognitions the board held a recognition and send‑off for outgoing student representative Misha Rollins (referred to in remarks as “Misha”), with several board members and staff praising his leadership on student council and in the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) student strand. Board members described Rollins as an advocate for students and encouraged him as he prepares for post‑secondary plans.
Following the recognitions the board swore in Marissa Don Juan as the incoming student board representative. Don Juan repeated an oath referencing the district’s governance policy exhibit (Exhibit 2e) and pledged to represent the voices and perspectives of all students in District 2.
There was no formal board action required to recognize students or to swear in the student representative; the swearing‑in followed the district’s governance exhibit cited during the oath.
