City says Jamaica–McCulloch signal moving forward; pedestrian connections and signage for Main Street Commons under review
Summary
Officials said a traffic signal at Jamaica and McCulloch is funded and moving toward design after a fatality triggered funding availability; staff also noted longstanding pedestrian-connection conversations for a safe crossing of U.S. 95 and welcomed suggestions for signage along the Pima Wash walkway and connections to Rotary Park.

Lake Havasu City officials said April 4 that funding and design work are advancing for a traffic signal at Jamaica and McCulloch, a location that serves multiple schools and has been the subject of safety concerns.
Mayor Cal Sheehy and staff said a traffic study and national standards inform traffic-control changes, and that funding for this signal became available after a fatal collision in the corridor. Sheehy said signals are not chosen lightly, noting their cost and safety trade-offs, and that alternatives such as roundabouts have not gained public support in the city.
In response to a resident’s question about signage and pedestrian connections for the new Main Street Commons and Pima Wash walkway, staff pointed to Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) pedestrian plans that include trail expansion and said they continue to evaluate options — including dedicated crossings or a pedestrian bridge or tunnel across U.S. 95 — that could be eligible for federal grants.
Staff encouraged residents to share ideas about signage at intersections (for example, marking McCulloch and Pima Wash) and said they would review suggestions and MPO funding opportunities for improved crossings. No final engineering design or construction date for the Jamaica–McCulloch signal was given, but staff said they expect to see work within months once design and funding are finalized.
