Lake Havasu City officials said April 4 that two cellular towers are being installed to address dead zones and improve public-safety radio coverage, and that a proposed third site remains unresolved.
City Manager Jessica Newton said two of three originally proposed tower sites completed the public-review process and are under construction: one behind the courthouse/City Hall parking lot and another near Mulberry and Cypress. Newton said the towers will allow carriers to lease space and also enable the city to install radio communications equipment for emergency services.
Newton said a large coverage gap on the city’s south end remains and that the private developer seeking to place the third tower has not yet found a suitable parcel; neighborhood opposition in the proposed area had been a factor in the planning process.
The city said the towers aim to reduce dead zones that leave some residents with unreliable cell service and to enhance radio communications for first responders. City officials did not provide contractor names for the tower work during the session and did not announce an activation date for the equipment.
