City secures nearly $1 million SLIF grant for Rotary Park accessibility and amenities

Lake Havasu City officials announced April 4 that they were awarded a State Lake Improvement Fund (SLIF) grant — described in the meeting as nearly $1 million — to make accessibility and infrastructure improvements at Rotary Park.
City Manager Jessica Newton said the project will focus on ADA accessibility improvements, curb and sidewalk upgrades, repaving the parking lot, utility improvements and a small restroom near the south end of the channel. Newton said the grant specifically targets accessibility and will set the stage for future phases.
Officials said the grant follows similar successful SLIF-funded work elsewhere and that city staff hope to secure additional SLIF funding to add complementary amenities such as a splash pad where the old RC Park once stood. Newton noted the city studied a Bullhead City example when evaluating potential splash-pad benefits.
Mayor Cal Sheehy said the park is heavily used and that improvements will help daily users, families and event organizers. Staff named Assistant City Manager Anthony Koslowski and grants manager (as stated) “Vijay Sari” for work on grant acquisition and administration.
No construction start date or contractor was given in the morning forum; staff said more planning and scheduling detail will be shared during project development.
