City continues planning for a second pool; feasibility complicated by user requests for a 50‑meter facility

Lake Havasu City officials said on March 7 that the city has budgeted money in its capital improvement plan for a second pool to relieve capacity pressures at the municipal aquatic center, but that planning is still active after users asked the city to consider a 50‑meter competitive pool instead of a 25‑meter facility.
Mayor Cal Sheehy said the city identified limited lap swim windows and recreational demand as drivers for a second pool. City staff placed funding in the CIP and began planning, but learned that competitive users prefer a 50‑meter pool — a specification that substantially increases cost and complexity.
"We were in a better position when it was 25 meters, but now it's 50 meters," Sheehy said. "Is it doable? We don't know." Officials said the city will explore partnerships, including with the school district, and will continue site analysis, cost estimates and community outreach before a final design or budget is adopted.
No final design, site or procurement contract was presented at the briefing; staff said the project remains active in planning and is a council priority but requires additional analysis to determine feasibility and cost implications.
