Rep. Judy Boyle reintroduces measure on commercial speech to limit out-of-state marijuana advertising
Summary
Rep. Judy Boyle introduced RS 32,354 to clarify commercial-speech restrictions that would bar advertising for products illegal under federal or Idaho law; she said the measure targets out‑of‑state marijuana ads and is narrower than prohibiting advertising for all contested topics.

Representative Judy Boyle (District 9) told the committee she reintroduced RS 32,354 to address advertising by marijuana retailers across state lines.
"I found out last year that we are allowing advertising of the marijuana shops that are across in Oregon and Washington," Boyle said. She said the bill seeks to define "commercial free speech" so it covers products illegal at the federal level and illegal under state or local law.
Boyle said the measure passed the House in a prior session but was blocked in the Senate. She clarified the language is meant to cover "illegal drugs" and "does not cover things like abortion ... or prostitution," which she said are not intended targets of the RS.
The committee voted to introduce RS 32,354; the transcript records a voice vote with no roll-call tallies.
