Renovation of district attorney building proceeding; county expects DA office to move in this summer

County staff reported to the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 12 that work on the District Attorney and Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) renovation is progressing, with a revised schedule that puts the CBI occupancy in July and the DA in August.
Staff said contractors uncovered unanticipated conditions when removing the roof on one portion of the combined building complex. The conditions required additional framing and roof slope work to meet current energy and building codes. The county’s contractor, H W Houston, is on site and staff said the final roof will meet current insulation and energy standards.
County staff said the DA office is targeted to move in by Aug. 1 and the CBI by July 1; staff described the roof work as an up‑front investment that will reduce heating costs and improve long‑term performance. Staff also said the contractor has been cooperative on change orders and that facilities staff are monitoring progress.
No formal board action was required for the update; commissioners thanked staff for oversight and asked to be kept informed on contract changes and schedule updates.
The county’s timeline depends on normal construction scheduling and supply chain timing; staff said they were working to minimize disruptions and keep the project on track.
