Jared Tatro, deputy division manager for Legislative Services’ Budget and Policy Analysis Division, told the committee the figure reflects a per‑support‑unit allocation rather than a per‑full‑time equivalent. “Public schools don't receive 14,130 per FTP. Instead, they receive a dollar amount, an allocated dollar amount per support unit, which is the 1.55 staff allowance,” Tatro said, explaining that the calculation produced $21,901.5 and the language needs to specify the rounded dollar amount to guide the Department of Education’s distributions.
The committee accepted the correction by unanimous consent after a committee member requested it be included in the program‑maintenance bill. The chair recorded no objections and ordered the change.
The technical correction ensures the Department of Education will distribute $21,902 for each support unit under the maintenance bill language. No other changes to the program‑maintenance bill were made during the action.
The committee moved on after the consent vote; staff said the dollar amount must appear in the bill text so the Department of Education can calculate and disburse funds correctly.
