Yukon planning commission recommends approval for State Farm agency special use permit

The Yukon Planning Commission on Oct. 13 voted to recommend approval of a special use permit to allow an insurance agency to operate at 2121 South Yukon Parkway, Suite 120.

The item drew brief public discussion and staff review before the commission voted. The applicant, Annae Stevens, said she was requesting the permit “to open up my State Farm agency.” Amy Coleman, listed as agency field leadership for State Farm, said the application was complete and that she could answer questions about operations.

The commission’s recommendation follows staff findings in a staff report that the proposed office use meets the city’s zoning requirements. Chairman Wright said, “We have read the staff report and received testimony at the public hearing. We find ourselves in agreement with the staff findings cited in the staff report.”

Commissioners cast unanimous votes to recommend approval. The advisory recommendation goes to the Yukon City Council, which will take final action on the permit.

The permit request was filed as a special use because Yukon’s code requires special-use review for certain commercial uses in some zoning districts. The application materials state the tenant will occupy one unit in an existing commercial building; no changes to site circulation or building exterior were described at the Planning Commission meeting.

The commission clerical record shows the motion and second were made during the meeting and the vote was recorded as “Yes” from Chairman Wright, Vice Chairman Geiss, Commissioner Clark, Commissioner Knuckles and Commissioner Jones. No conditions beyond standard staff recommendations were stated on the record.

The item will next appear on the city council agenda, where residents or the applicant may present additional information or objections prior to final action.
