Elizabeth (Beth) Elroy appeared before the committee as a gubernatorial reappointment candidate for the Idaho Board of Environmental Quality and described her education and industry experience.
Elroy said she grew up in Jerome, earned a mathematics degree from the College of Idaho and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Idaho State University, and has worked at Micron for more than 20 years. She said her roles have included environmental engineering, construction of fabrication facilities, operations and maintenance, and most recently serving as vice president of global environmental safety and health and sustainability.
As a board member she said two accomplishments stand out: retention of technical talent at DEQ and handling contested cases that required technical and legal depth. When asked about goals, she said her primary objective is to protect the environment while balancing business prosperity and cited examples where industry innovation reduced environmental impact and operational costs.
On questions about agriculture and cloud seeding, Elroy said she is not an expert in those fields and deferred to agricultural specialists; she said protecting land and responsible agricultural practices are important. The committee did not take a confirmation vote in this hearing; the chair said the vote will occur at the next meeting.
