Committee introduces RS to expand reporting requirements for occupational licensing authorities

The House Business Committee voted to introduce RS31955, a proposal to strengthen transparency for state occupational licensing authorities by changing statutory reporting requirements.
Representative Jaren Crane told the committee the RS would repeal and replace Idaho Code section 67-9407 and establish new permanent reporting obligations for agencies that act as licensing authorities. The sponsor said the change would improve transparency, consumer protection and accountability, and that most boards currently provide similar information voluntarily.
When Representative Harris asked about added workload and potential fiscal impact to the Department of Professional Licensing (DOPL), Crane said he expected no fiscal impact, noting much of the reporting was carried out voluntarily and that prior work on reporting had been accomplished under Executive Order 2017-6 without incremental cost.
Representative Redmond moved to introduce RS31955; the motion carried by voice vote.
