College of Western Idaho describes rapid enrollment growth, cites capacity limits and a capped enrollment workload adjustment
Summary
College of Western Idaho told the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee it is experiencing double‑digit academic enrollment growth and widespread program waitlists, while the statewide Enrollment Workload Adjustment was reduced by a 3% cap to $265,000 for CWI.
Gordon Jones, president of the College of Western Idaho, told the Joint Finance‑Appropriations Committee that the college is experiencing strong enrollment growth and emerging capacity constraints as it seeks state funding for instructional and student‑support needs.
Jones said CWI posted roughly 13% academic enrollment growth this year and that the institution now educates tens of thousands of Idahoans. “We are up this year 13% in our academic enrollment,” Jones said. He told the committee the college reported nearly 22,000 for‑credit students and served more than 30,000 students in the 2023–24 academic year; in other remarks he referenced “31,000 individuals” as the total served (all figures as reported to the committee).
