Mount Vernon to swear in Bridal Harris as fire chief; James Sanders named assistant chief

Bridal Harris, the incoming fire chief of the Mount Vernon Fire Department, and James Sanders, incoming assistant fire chief of operations, will be sworn in during a March 28 ceremony at Fire Station 2, City of Mount Vernon staff announced. Harris will officially begin his new duties April 1.
The leadership change follows long service by both appointees. City of Mount Vernon staff said Harris is a longtime Mount Vernon resident who has served at the department for more than 25 years and most recently as assistant chief. While assistant chief, Harris helped lead the department's transition to a fire-based EMS system, expanded EMS training opportunities with surrounding fire districts, and worked on firefighter health and safety projects through statewide collaborations.
James Sanders has served the Mount Vernon Fire Department for 18 years, including six years as a battalion chief, city staff said. Sanders holds a Master of Science with an emphasis in executive fire leadership from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Science in fire administration from Eastern Oregon University.
The city provided the appointment and ceremony details as part of routine personnel announcements. No further operational changes or staffing numbers were specified.
