Council confirms Bethany Fackrell to For Culture board as District 3 representative

The Committee of the Whole confirmed Bethany Fackrell as the District 3 appointment to the board of For Culture (formerly 4Culture) on Jan. 28, 2025.

Council central staff presented the appointment materials and noted the board is a 15‑member body that advises King County on arts, heritage and cultural programs. The committee voted to approve proposed motion 2024‑0388 with a due‑pass recommendation; the motion will be placed on the Feb. 11 council consent agenda for formal action.

Fackrell is an independent artist, a founding member and co‑owner of Canoe Culture Connections LLC, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy who identifies as an active member of the Snoqualmie Tribe, staff reported. Her application highlights public‑facing artwork using traditional Salish patterns and collaborations with local organizations such as the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, the Snoqualmie Tribe and the King County Housing Authority.

Fackrell told the committee she is “very excited to present opportunities to people” who may not know what arts or cultural resources are available. Claire Michio, government and community relations manager for For Culture, and Director Brian Carter had recommended nominees and the council thanked them for prioritizing board diversity.

Council Member Jeanne Perry, who moved the motion, praised For Culture’s efforts to expand representation and said Fackrell will bring experience from tribal communities and the arts sector as the board rolls into the 2025 grants cycle.

The clerk recorded seven ayes; Council Member Teresa Mosqueda was excused. The motion will be placed on the Feb. 11 consent agenda for final council confirmation; the appointee does not need to attend that meeting.

For Culture will work with the appointee on onboarding and integrate her into the board’s 2025 planning and grants work.
