Norview hosts specialty-programs showcase for families

Norview High School hosted a specialty-programs showcase night where families could see district specialty programs and learn how they might fit students’ needs.

The event gave families the opportunity to speak with program staff and students and view displays explaining program offerings. ‘‘It’s actually good because, before this, I did not know some of the programs that some of these schools offered,’’ a parent said.

Students who participate in the specialty programs described why they value the classes. A current junior who said she is enrolled in the Leadership Center for Science and Engineering Specialty High School program said, “I truly love this program. I am a current junior, and so, you know, I’ve been here for a while, and I am really interested in humanities and business, marketing. . . this program is really special for me because it helps teach me the leadership skills to build the future, skills I need for the careers in that field.”

Sixth grader Christian Smith spoke about the Young Scholars program, saying, “The teachers, they’re just like us, and they understand Young Scholars, and they, like, they help Young Scholars, kids to be better. I feel good about it in telling people about the school I love to go to.”
