The Mill Creek City Council voted unanimously Oct. 14 to authorize the city manager to renew an interlocal agreement with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to fund regional traffic safety task force activities through Sept. 30, 2026.
The agreement, presented to council by the police chief, covers Region 10 and carries an allocation of about $192,500 for traffic-safety enforcement and outreach. The funding is intended to support high-visibility enforcement efforts such as click-it-or-ticket and holiday DUI emphasis periods and speed enforcement campaigns.
Finance and police staff told the council the grant supports both enforcement details and community outreach. The chief said the department previously used a small allocation to participate in four enforcement events, two community outreach events and training at a local high school; prior enforcement results included speed and distracted-driving violations and seat-belt citations.
Councilmember (unnamed) moved to authorize the renewal; a second was recorded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The council did not direct further amendments to the agreement and described the action as a routine annual renewal. The funding will be administered through the city manager's office and the police department, and the agreement runs through the 2026 fiscal year end noted above.
